This morning I have been called by Travelworld to sell my timeshare. At first I was a bit confused because I have advertised through a legitimate company with a similar name and I thought it was them. I heard a long monologue where I was told I wouldn't pay any money upfront and then I was told I had to pay something to 'secure' the deal (what?). This had to be done on a credit card because of european laws. I don't think the guy took a breath throughout!
I queried this politely and was put onto the sales person in charge. I was told the charge was to ensure I was genuine in my sale as I would receive the full amount in advance and it was 'expensive to chase up sales where the seller didn't send the required paperwork in good time'. I would of course get the security amount back. Sounds plausible doesn't it?
Needless to say I didn't pay any money. |

They are still at it!! - just received a call from Elaine (Travelworld) 0845 6801278 - with the usual waffle. Fortunately the old "cynic" was around to confirm my views - waiting with baited breath for her to ring me back to ascertain my decision. Offered £5100 provided we sent E$850. Doubt if our week is worth £510!!
Stay alert folks

TravelworldSpain ARE STILL AT IT; it's about time someone did something to stop these scam artists based in Spain. Had a phone call fron a Jonathan Evans at Travelworld in Spain today (17/04/2008) proporting to have a genuine and keen buyer lined up to buy my three weeks timeshare in Majorca. He stated that the buyer had the money and were ready to buy these weeks and Travelworld would contact my timeshare to arrange for the buyer to view the accomdation. Here's the catch, he required a deposit paid from my CC of 850 euros (how come all these companies require the same 895 euro deposit)to cover the contract and the conclusion of the sale. He had all the patter of a secondhand car salesman, and to the average person sounded genuine; but take it from me having been conned twice by Companies like this in Spain - STAY WELL AWAY AND KEEP YOUR MONEY SAFE. |

Here is another twist on the scam. I was done by T-One, which has now been closed down. Travel World called me to say the Receivers had passed a list of unpaid Creditors to them so that they could assist us to sell. Additionally, if we sold via them, they would refund the amount lost to T-One, and they would be able top claim back from the Receivers. They have a buyer - and want the 850 Euro so show I am an interested seller. Asked them to call back as I said I did not have my CC to give me time to check out Sharl Alley. Having been bitten once - waiting for them to call me back !!! |

| This sounds particularly dangerous. The "receivers" are in fact the Official Receiver and there will be no assets whatever. I would be inclined to pass comment to the OFT about this. |

Looks like they have setup another company to act as a front to the con using more or less the same M.O. - Secure Leisure www.secureleisure.com. They inadvertantly left an eletronic footprint linking TravelWorld WorldWide to Secure Leisure.....doh!
Be warned!
BTW - Great forum.

Hi Old Bill, Sorry I took so long to answer (I had input into this string back in Aug 07 and have not been only line for while). Glad to say I eventually got my money back from these crooks via the C/C company. It took another 6 months after the 12 month contract had expired, but I got 98% of my money back, I'll write the 2% off as a lesson learnt!!!!. Here's a new one. Have you heard of a company called Travel Connect Services? Both me and my brother have been approached and I am insisting that they are scammers (I have learnt my lesson!!). They have an office in Cambridge and are based in Tenerife. They reckon that they will pay your air fares to Tenerife IF you join their maintenance fee scheme.
