I attended the AGM yesterday and had promised to report back. I went there expecting a major row about the likelihood of increased m/fs, but came away reasonably satisfied with the outcome. The reason - a management team (owners & company reps) who actually do give every impression of pulling in the same direction. The Chair, a lady not afraid to call a spade a spade, I found particularly impressive. She stated that things had gone wrong in the past and that the relationship with MacDonald management had been almost non existent. No claims that everything is sweetness and light, again acknowledging major disagreements between the owners and MacDonald at times regarding what actions should be taken. There definitely does seem to be a willingness by both sides to listen to the other's view. I find that very refreshing. I haven't attended the AGM for some years, but at previous AGM I did attend it was clear that the company representatives looked on the owners as something they had trodden in!! I know it's easy to for the committee to 'talk the talk' and only time will tell if actually really do follow. I must say that I am genuinely hopeful that will be the case. Incidentally RCI Gold Crown status has also been regained. |

I'll be very surprised if life at Plas Talgarth does not become more expensive for you in the future. I hope your optimism is not misplaced but a leopard can't change its spots.......
But tell me, do the owners appoint the management company or is it more complicated than that. Certaintly at Loch Rannoch, the owners have a say through the Committee in the management of the resort, a Committee that they can elect and which following changes to the constitution have seen the elected members increased from 3 to 6 to reduce the influence of the two committee members nominated by Macdonald. Previously, it just needed one elected member to side with Macdonald for Macdonald to do what they wanted. If the owners at Plas Talgarth really own the timeshare, then in a dispute between the owners and the management company there should only be one winner, the owners. If the owner committee cannot tell Macdonald what to do, then I afraid the owners are not in charge.
Finally, just out of interest, is the name of the Chair Norma Hartshorn?
John McFarlane
PS Since Macdonald failed to get an interdict in December preventing changes to the Committee's membership amongst other things, they have failed to turn up at the SGM in December 2005 and the recent AGM in October 2006. |

John,
I fully expect the fees to increase. No secret was made of that likelihood by the committee yesterday. The explanation given was basically that works were allowed to deteriorate far too much in the past before anything was done and that then creates extra cost. Nobody is happy at the thought, but we are where we are. The committee is 3 owners and 2 MacDonald so you are right that it only takes one to agree with MacD for their argument to win the day. From what I saw yesterday I don't think there are too many *****cats in the owner committee member numbers. I doubt they will be bullied either by MacD or other owners into doing anything they don't agree with. I have attended my fair share of AGM's over the years, not Plas Talgarth, and I think I hear more straight talking at this one than at all the others combined. The constitution and format of the committee at PT will be much like the original one at Loch Rannoch. MacD put their people in and the members elect their representatives. At present there does seem to be a genuine desire by the reps from MacD to work with the owner reps. We'll just have to see if that works out over time. Yes, Norma is the Chair. |

Two rather pointed, recent postings from cri***hare
Dec 15 2006 Norma Sharthorn was appointed by MacDonalds in Plas Talgarth so they could carry on with the rape and pillage of their owners without the obstruction of pesky 'Concerned Owners Groups' The woman is a profesional 'Judas goat', leading the lambs to the slaughter... - anon
Dec 15 2006 If the Norma Hartshorn who is 'the Chair' of the owners committee at Macdonalds Plas Talgarth resort, is the same Norma Hartshorn who 'masterminded' the Airtours Concerned Owners group into extinction, then there must be cause for concern from the Plas Talgarth Owners. Rather surprising really, as one would have thought that Mac D's could manage to p*ss the owners off all by themselves, without any need for puppets. Maybe a change of Mac D's policy for the New Year eh? And pigs will fly over Bathgate !
