Beach at Maspalomas
« on: February 23, 2011, 20:21:56 »
Maspalomas beach suffers the worst erosion in its history.  There is no background, at least in the last fifty years, a situation similar to that recorded at this time with the almost total loss of sediment and the appearance of a sea of rocks where there were three meters of golden sand.  Businessmen, traders, owners and residents of Maspalomas are really frightened by the deterioration that affects the most emblematic beach south of Gran Canaria.  The last time Southwest, which was not greater than three days, with waves of about four meters high, has removed the sand from the beach altogether.

We were there last year in June and December and we were astounded with the change to the beach. What was a really spacious beach was a lot narrower and cramped. Your picture shows that further erosion has taken place since we were there. I am not surprised the local businesses and owners are worried as the beautiful beach attracted masses of people.
Really sad.
