Resort Name:Cala de Mar
Location: Majorca, Spain
Party: Two adults
Visited: 1st to 8th April, 2006.
Primary Exchange Company: RCI
Taxi from airport to resort was 58 euro and took less than an hour.
Resort consists of 44 apartments only about 6 being studios the rest being a mix of one and two beds. Kitchens in need of a refurb. Dishwasher, washing machine, microwave , oven with 4 hobs enough cutlery and crockery etc.
In general we were very comfortable in our one bed which contained a double bed. Plenty of wardrobe space in the bedroom but nowhere to hang anything elsewhere if anyone was using the sofa bed.
Nice patio area overlooking the pool (all aparts overlooked the pool and all got some sun)
Euroski (large) supermarket next door and in general the resort is very convenient for restaurants and shops.
Off site restaurants recommended. Taberna Blanca (left out of resort and on the right 150 yds)
The Bistro (Irish) right out of resort then right at small roundabout (Bistro is opposite bowling alley)
The bistro is good for steak, you order rump steak (12oz) onion rings mushrooms and chips and that is exactly what you get (no plate full of rabbit food)
Breakfast restaurant - Tony`s . Through precinct at side of supermarket and Tony`s is opposite you just over the road.
Avoid eating at Western Steakhouse which is very poor.
On site restaurant. We never managed to book, though I must confess that we did not try very hard,
The restaurant was reported to be quite good and meals of some description were available virtually all day from 10am onwards.
Entertainment was on every night, mainly singers, we saw 2 or 3 artists and all were reasonable. (the acts run over 2 weeks so those we saw may not be the ones who are on when you visit.) The entertainments manager was called Stuart from Hackney. He was very enthusiastic and approachable and put in far more hours than his contract asked for and created quite a few activities which suited the ages of the participants.
Table tennis , crazy putting and a walk around chess board were at the back of the pool, plenty of sunbeds around the pool and a good attentive lifeguard.
Reps Paul and Diane. Yes only two on site! and not intrusive in any way. They were obviously of the old school and if you wished to discuss anything with them then you had to approach them. No lies or talking up the product and a refreshing change from the usual push from the younger end reps.
Cala d`or is 30 to 45 mins walk and worth a visit . Taxi back 5 euro
Marina is an optimistic 5 mins. Go towards the Bistro past Doughertys at side of bistro then turn left at bottom of street to pick up the path that runs in a wooded area alongside the marina.
We found the resort perfect for a relaxing week and will be going back again as I am sure it will become one of our favourite resorts in the coming years.
